He may not possess Superman-like powers, but renowne3d saddle and bridle designer Peter Menet is looking at horses with a powerful new vision. Following an exhaustive study of  the horses anatomy as it relates to veins, arteries, nerves and the soft tissue areas,  he can actually see where a horse is susceptible to facial pain and injury, inspiring him to literally reinvent the bridle. The result: Vespucci!

In much the same way that Menet's Amerigo saddles redefine the way a rider sits on a horse, Vespucci bridles' design philosophy takes into consideration the biomechanics of a horse in motion, pressure points on the horse's head, and the best way to communicate instructions between rider and horse. All of which is for the purpose of creating a union, where the horse almost intuitively understands the riders direction and the two move together as one.

For centuries, bridles have been quite frankly, instruments of torture for horses. Rather than communication directions to the pressure points on the horse's head, they have caused pain and distraction. At times, poorly made or poorly fit bridles can even cause damage to the facial hair and bones. With the advent of Vespucci, however, you now have a fine turned instrument of performance.

Menet's passion for performance begins with the recognition that the vast majority of horses nerves emanate from the top of the head-the poll behind the ears. A traditional bridle rests directly on this area, creating the potential for a great deal of pain.  By positioning the Vespucci directly in front of the poll, complemented with extensive padding, this highly sensitive area is protected.

To verify these inspired design innovations, Vespucci's kinder, gentler bridles have gone through an extensive series of trials to determine the proper areas of padding and avoidance.  In the half-halt, Menet was able to identify  a horse's level of discomfort as evidenced by behaviors, as in elevated head, a swishing tail, ears pinned back or hind end falling out behind.

Any competitive rider knows that success depends on an almost intuitive understanding between horse and rider. Vespucci promotes that relationship by offering the rider a tool to deliver clear, unfettered commands, so the horse and rider become one. moving together, unbridled by unnecessary distractions.

45 Degrees: Once the rider presets the stirrups at 45 degrees, instantly they notice that the leather is applying 1/2 the pressure across their shin as a normal stirrup. This reduction in leather pressure reduces leg burns, but still gives the rider who relies on this pressure the feeling that they desire. Should the rider lose their iron, the MDC Intelligent Stirrups will tend to leave a clear opening making the stirrup easily retrievable. This increase in stirrup retrieval puts the rider back in control and allows them to Proceed and compete at their highest possible efficiency. 45 Degrees seems to be the preferable preset angle for show jumpers and Event Riders.

90 Degrees: Presetting the irons at 90 degrees results in no leather pressure across the shin and leaves the iron completely open for retrieval. At 90 degrees, the MDC Intelligent Stirrups are performing at their maximum level: no leather burns, maximum retrieval and the greatest safety, as the stirrup tends to remain open allowing the dislodged rider to clear the stirrup safely and easily. 90 Degrees seems to be the preferable preset for Dressage, Endurance and Trail Riders as well as general flat riding applications.
